x the moon had only begun it's ritual. there was scant enough moonlight to light his path (not that it made much of a difference - the beast had extraordinary night vision, just a short gander at those vivid wolf-like eyes would prove that point). he traversed quickly across the soil, for this brute was not one to waste time, much less his own. though he could travel as quietly and go as unnoticed as a moth, he paid no mind to sound at the moment. richly muscled neck was tucked in handsomely, as it often did when he was concentrating and on the move. just an old quirk. his breaths came in quickly, and could be heard from several yards off. though he was a magnificent specimen of all that an equine could be, there was no denying his massive size. and so, in his carefree state, every time a talon pierced the surface, there was a resounding thud. the wind stirred by movement caught up in lavish mane, and it -along with banner- flickered behind chassis like any flag of war.
xx there was no set place in mind - he only knew that he wanted a place of his own. though due to size he most often won any argument, he desired a realm where his rules must be followed. he had been a roamer most of his life. though that lifestyle was still quite desirable, he felt the urge to settle down, least aways for a short while. he would not claim some patch of earth at random, this would be legit. it would be an odd sensation, to actually have the title of lord. he had often been referred as one, since he tended to rule over any land he stumbled upon. 'twas only in his nature. where other lords would stutter or tremble he was steadfast and firm. heart was not broken or misplaced - it had been so horrible disfigured that it served no use as far as emotions were concerned. and so, he was able to rule with an iron fist. nothing got in his way. odd though, that he was not power hungry nor greedy. he wanted things, but as soon they were earned/received, it was subdued. at least until he grew bored with it, gave it up to another, and went in search of something else.
xxx back to the trek. the colossus cared little if anyone heard or saw him pass. the wind told of no strangers, and his eyes agreed. once finished crossing the plain, he entered the tree-line. quick canter did not slow a fraction - if anything it sped up. the darkness here beckoned - caressed him as he made his way deeper into its' heart. he traveled for quite some time, and he knew it to be pitch around. there was no undergrowth, and the lower parts of the trees nearby were bare. even during the day, this place was under the cover of darkness. he had to have a piece of this. pace slowed to a quick jog - he was going to start getting picky now. his dwelling would have to be seemingly made for him; he felt it in his gut that such a place existed. hooves still followed no path, and there was no telltale signs of any other equines. in fact, it had been a while since he had caught the aroma of one. if he had to guess, this was virgin sod beneath frame. excellent. he would carve it to his own liking. his trail began to twist as he let instinct guide him. he began to catch the faintest smell of water - odd though. he knew there to be a river within the confines of the forest. but to his understanding he was nowhere near it. but quickly after mind held such thoughts, an answer was revealed. in this blackness, even he could see that there was a deeper dark up ahead.
xxxx it wasn't very large, in fact it barely admitted his frame. he was in a cave of sorts, and the environment intrigued him greatly. his hoof-falls now had an almost metallic echo, and he was sure to awake anything that hid in this darkness. that was an interesting natural defense. exploring further, he discovered that this 'cave' was in fact a cavern. the further he went down, the larger it grew. it also grew lighter. with curiosity perked, who wouldn't keep going? it didn't take too long for the place to explode in size. the ceiling was quite high - he could barely make out the roof. the ground beneath him turned to softer pebbles. the lake that had acted as his honing device was beautiful to the eye. the light had come from a hole fixed above. from this light there was hardly any edibles in here, but that was alright with him. anything that was there to eat he would dine on, and would only share with a very select few. if anything he would bed down on it while any others may choose a place along the shore. it would be interesting indeed if any fell through that opening though. they might die upon impact, drown in the lake if unable to swim, or get their heads knocked in by him. yes, this place was ideal. and it was all his. deal with it.
